How we verify knowledge
NutriDir.Pro combines an accessible encyclopaedia with a database in which every figure and every statement about a nutrient's effect has a verifiable source. Below we describe — without embellishment — how this data is produced and what this method does not guarantee.
Two registers, one principle
Figures (reference values, limits) come from the scientific register — documents from the WHO, EFSA, NASEM and national institutes. Statements about nutrient effects come from the EU register of health claims. If a claim cannot be supported by either register, we do not publish it as a fact about an effect.
The “sourced” status
“Sourced” is the only status that appears on the live site. A value has a stated source document, a location within it (table or page) and a link. Values without such a reference are not published.
Who edits, and how we verify
Let us say it plainly: this site has no human editorial team. The content of entries and the data compilations are produced with the involvement of language models. We check that each figure matches the source document by cross-checking — several independent models are given the stated document and location, and any discrepancy between them blocks publication of the value.
What this does not replace. No human editor has confirmed these values against the original documents. AI cross-checking catches accidental errors, but it does not offer the assurance that a suitably qualified person reading the original would provide. Treat this site, therefore, as a signpost to the source rather than a definitive source in itself — and for any use where the figure truly matters, verify it in the linked document.
Why we publish anyway. Because the alternative in this niche is content with no sources at all. We would rather state the figure together with the document, location and link, and describe honestly how we checked it, than pretend to an editorial process that does not exist.
Health claims — what we do not do
We do not formulate or translate statements about nutrient effects ourselves. Every such statement is the verbatim wording of an authorised claim from the annex to Regulation (EU) No 432/2012, in the language version published in the Official Journal of the EU. The full list with entry numbers can be found in the register of claims.
Editorial independence
The content of entries and the values do not depend on commercial partners. Any commercial content is always clearly marked as advertising and kept separate from editorial content.
