Pantothenic acid owes its name to the Greek word for “everywhere” — and indeed it is present in measurable amounts in almost every food group. Because of this, documented cases of deficiency in humans are extremely rare and are practically limited to severe malnutrition.

It is a cofactor of coenzyme A — a molecule involved in the metabolism of almost all macronutrients: carbohydrates, fats and protein.
